The Benefits of Water

As we all know, drinking water is essential for the human body. On average, it makes up sixty percent our body weight. That's a lot! More specifically, our muscles consists of 75% water, the brain consists of 75% water , our bones 27% water and our blood 83% water.

1. So what does water really do in the body?
Adding or restating to the ones written above in the diagram:
1. Trasports nutrients and oxygen into cells
2. Protects our tissues and spinal cord by keeping them moist
3. Cushions our joints
3. Regulates body temperature
4. Removes waste and detoxifies with the help of your kidneys and liver
5. Helps with metabolism by increasing it and can sometimes help you lose weight
6. Fights disease and lowers stress

2. How much water should you drink?
You should try to drink at least 1.5 to 2 liters or 8 ounce glasses of water a day. That does sound like a lot, but remember: you are getting a lot of water just by eating lots of vegetable and fruits. This can contribute to your total fluid intake.

3. What happens if we do not drink enough water?
The main symptom is dehydration. Dehydration can cause headaches, fatigue, dizziness, and give you a dry mouth.

4. Why do humans become thirsty?
We lose water by sweating (from the humidity or by exercising), exhaling, urinating, or even through illness. When we do not have enough water in our body, the amount of saliva in our mouth decreases, making our mouth dry. This dryness causes us humans to become thirsty.

Just remember to pick up a glass of water today and your body will thank you!
